This family guest house is run by a very nice man, Prabhat. He helped us with everything during our stay. The guest house has nice a rooftop, where you can sit and relax. It is quite close to the burning ghat, main ghat and the golden temple.

No hot water, dirty sheets

Great & friendly staff, happy to assist in discovering the city really quiet area and super central in the old city amazing roof top view
- No breakfast although stated in description - due to the location in the old city it is hard to reach, esp with luggage. Yet perfect for exploring the ghats and thus no big problem

Situated just in the middle of old town, very close to ghats and Ganga. Old-styled interior decorated with nice pictures. The staff is very friendly and cooperative, with good English. The roof-top terrace has a nice view on river. For the first visit pick-up service would be highly recommended. Moscow, Sergey&Tatiana

I wanted to stay in the old part of the city and that was the reason why I chose this Guest House. However notice that the old part of Varanasi is very dirty so accommodation in this part of the city is not for everybody. I did enjoy my stay because it was a way of staying in an Indian House. The owner is polite. He worked out some problems we had. Breakfast was good, but served in parts, so when your toast arrived, your coffee was cold! Nice terrace to enjoy the Ganges River!
Extremely difficult to get to the guest house. Had I known a person of the staff could look for us, I would have let them know our arrival time. Breakfast, as expalined before, was not well served. It needs improvement. We were asked to pay day by day, not when checking out. Spartan room, with very little space to move.

The price of the room was at least 4 times the real price of the room. The common bathroom was in a common room, with an open roof and used normally by the family and their friends. Please do not book more than 1 night, so you can aks for proper price or find an other hotel.

Near to Lalita Ghat and place where the bodies are burned.
Boy(son of the owner) who is working in Suraj Guest house offer us guide service for 3000rupees, he wanted to take us for boat in the night and at the morning and take us to some places, he told us that people would take from us some donations near the ghats and with him we will not have problems. The first day he took us for a boat, and near was the place were everyday is ceremony in the evening. He took us to the place where we could buy some silk scarfs, he said it is goverment good shop. Later we resigned from next day trip with him, we order boat by yourself for 200 rupees, nobody ask us for donation. His price was out of the moon, and next day we found little shop where the same scarf costs 150 rupees, not 500(goverment price). When we resigned he was not helpfull anymore. We had 3 big suitcases and it was very hard to get to main road without help of one guy and without guide because to the suraj guest house you cannot reach by car, by tuc-tuc, nothing, you have to go few minutes in small streets, where people going, cows, its very crowded and tiny. When we were leaving he told us that he can help us but it is very expensive if he ask someone for help by suraj guest house, we had to go and ask people on the street for help and we paid just 50 rupees to the guy who help us with the bag and with orientation in these small streets. So we did not have big expactations about comfort of the hostel, but we thought that the service will be friendly and helpfull from the other opinions, it was not.

Location: 2 min to Lalita Ghat and the rest. Pick-up/drop-off from/to the chowk and the motorcycle ride through the maze of narrow streets. Quirky and colourful interior designs. Room comes with the door lock.
Didn't respond to my emails about the airport pick-up. Tried to give me the room without a shower contrary to the online contract agreement. All three days no hot water. Noise in the lobby.

All-around one of, if not the best, stop on our one-month tour of India. Our train was ridiculously late, but our pickup was right there - when we arrived. Location is perfect - just outside the bustle, but an easy walk to the ghats. great close view of the Ganges and rooftops below, there's also a little library and wi-fi. Staff are so friendly, helpful, and capable. Everything from laundry to daytrips are so easy to have arranged. Amazing value, highly recommended. Disliked: A little hot in my room
